Speakers for 94 Accord LX

So. I love how my speakers sound. And they are **** $50 xplodes in the back and $40 kenwoods in the front. And they STILL sound almost as good as my dads 6 speaker bose system.

So that got me thinking that if I actually got decent speakers and amped them, I would be a happy dude!

So I went onto crutchfield.com and saw some speakers that would work with my car. The only reason I went there is because I don't want a discrepancy with the speakers not being able to fit in my car. Either way I used the outfit my car option. I don't need high high end speakers, I just want speakers that sound good.

Judging by how good my current speakers sound to me, I think I have found a decent speaker

Polk Audio db651s

To be honest, I think that I don't need to spend more than $100 on a pair of speakers that will yield me the SQ I want, especially when they'll be amped.

So with that budget, and my car, what speakers would you recommend?

And what amp would you recommend with those speakers?

any other recommendations?

I'd prefer 6.5 just so I have a guaranteed fit in my car

Unless those CTX's are just mindblowing for the money...?

They seem cheap..

They're not mindblowinfg, but they sound very good. You might be able to get the 6.5" version on eBay for slightly more. I think mine were $110 or so when I got them.

I think Massive makes some coaxials, but I don't know how good they are.

I've had the infinity reference coaxials in my 96 accord and they sounded great. I had a small 2 channel amp powering them. I also removed my rear deck speakers.

They are only 50 bucks for a pair years back.

PS - BOSE blows.

The ID CTXs are great speakers for the money and I've auditioned, owned, and reviewed a few speakers in the price range and they're right up at the top of the list IMO.

Check out this vid of them:

Believe me, I have a picky ear and these really surprised me tonally for the price. If u can fit the 6.5s, though, I'd recommend them over my CTX 6s. The midbass is better. I'm not sure I want to sell mine online since a buddy of mine locally wants them and I'm in no real need for the cash so I'm just gonna wait on him to buy em or just keep em. (which is why I haven't bumped my thread)

I've auditioned those Polk db's as well and they are decent I suppose but the ID CTX's take a runny dump all over them. Especially in component form.

BTW, Thanks @MisterDeadeye

Yeah, $100 new is going to be pretty much impossible. The only thing I could think of is the $100 4 channel Aura amp from Parts-Express, but the power is pretty low for them. If you want them to keep up with your OA, you probably want at least 75W. But if you want low midbass without killing your speakers, don't go much higher than about 100W.

If you don't need much midbass, you can run op to 150 or so a piece, but I wouldn't. I've got mine on 75W and they're great.
