speakers crackling

so i got in my car yesterday and when i would turn it up past a certain volume my speakers would crackle loudly. then as the ride went on while playing at a lower volume it would get quieter and quieter and eventually no sound would come out... whats the deal?

Sounds like you have one of the following problems

1. Voice Coil is craped out on the speakers

2. Source is screwed - (check the amp if there is one or head unit)

You can test with an alternate speaker to see if by using a different speaker fixes the problem or if it remains if the new speaker does it too its the source

if not.. its the speaker..

If your using an amp.. try a different amp.. yet I'm sure you wont have at your disposal 'extra' amps or speakers to test with.. but is the best cheap'o' way..
