I have a mono amp capable of putting out 900W @2ohms to 2 subs (450W to each) and I want to know what gauge for speaker wire i should go, I am only running the speaker wire 3-4 feet or so
i WAS gonna use my left over 8ga power LOL overkill for sure, but i dont have any better use for the 8ga...i would too if my box terminals were big enough
The length of the run has more to do with gauge choice than power does when it comes to speaker wire. Believe it or not, it's true. The is because the longer the wire, the more resistance you'll have. The only reason to use larger gauge wire is to reduce impedance. If the impedance of the wire is more than 5% (10% at max) of the impedance of the speaker, then you will get large changes in frequency response. Here's a chart to help you choose speaker wire:
haha awsome, will do...this stuff is finely stranded so it shudnt be too hard to snip off some and fit it in, saves me from buying 12/14ga wires...just recycling the old power cable (which costed me nothing in the first place)
