Hey guys I want to build a box for my SoundStream T4-12. The thing is I want a sealed box, but I can only find box specs for this speaker for ported which is 3 cubic feet. So if anyone can help me with this I would be most gratefull.

Specs:

Subwoofer Size

12"

Voice Coil(s)

Dual

Impedance (per voice coil)

1 ohms

Peak Power Handling

2300 watts

RMS Power Handling

900 watts

Woofer Composition

Cloth Laminated Paper

Woofer Surround

High-Arc, High-Excursion Foam

Sensitivity

89 dB

Frequency Response

25 - 1700 Hz

Xmax (millimeters)

16 mm

Top Mount Depth

6-1/10"

Cutout Diameter

11-1/4"

That's because those subs are designed for vented/ported enclosures only.

Doesn't mean you can't build a sealed enclosure for them.

+Usually its about 75% the size of a ported box.

"RECOMMENDED ENCLOSURE (Ft3) : Ported 2.2

RECOMMENDED ENCLOSURE TYPE : Vented

AEROPORT DEMENSIONS (INCHES): 4 x 7.5(1)"

I realise they are designed for ported boxes but personaly I think the quality is better with a sealed box, or am I wrong? what would a ported box do that a sealed box cant? besideds the fact the the ported are bigger.

Somewhat wrong, different subs perform differently in certain enclosures. Granted you might be able to make something work, but it may(and most likely will not) perform to it's full capabilities. And generally ported boxes have a bit more "oomph" to them on low notes, sealed is more towards sq and tight, punchy bass.

Generally speaking, a "ported" type sub will usually have a tighter suspension. It can handle more power with less restriction (venting) than a comparable speaker with a "loose" suspension. This is why some speakers can be ran infinite baffle or vented and be within their ranges, while another (sealed design)speaker could be damaged at the same power levels and would likely distort while being damaged. I have generally noticed in home theater/pro audio that speakers in sealed boxes have very weak suspensions compared to their vented/ported counterparts. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

Ported will have more output in a narrow range. Sealed will have moderate output across a broad range. This is why "SQ" type setups usually have a flat/smooth response from 20hz to 20khz, while an SPL setup is several Db higher near the peak and crappy response everywhere else (cancellation from SPL), imho. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif
