New Reference line and Rubicon line are in the works. Well the Rubicon is done, but the Reference is set to be released first. Carl Cummings was working on the new Reference line but has since left the company. The page now has tons of pics thanks to amp guts.

If the so called famous Carl Cummings (and he is famous for what?) had anything to do with the so called new Rubi/Ref, then its going to a total flop. They ran off all the people who made the old SS what it was long time ago.

It's dishearting to see them sell their junk under the series names in which made their company.

I think Carl is one of the better designers they have had. How many issues did you hear whit the Van gogh line? One of Soundstream's best SQ amps. Next to the first Reference line. The S and the SX's are what started the end of the original company.

Question should be how many issues I didn't hear. It looks like he just took the Rubicon amp design by Greg and change a few things to made his own. On top of all that they mislead the public in thinking they were made in the USA. Where in fact they were not Manufactured, Built, Assembled, Handcrafted or anything else in the USA. That little "Made in the USA" sticker goes a long way. If those amps were so great they still be out today.

SS name Carl as "Legendary" without any other further explanation and so far no one has come up with one that I have heard.

I supported the company way back in the early 90's and still do, but I don't under the new management.

Well the new Management is real good . Grizz Archer is trying to turn things around. The fist thing he did when he got there way kill the Xtream line of amps. He is working on higher end lines and completing somethings that were left over from the old management. Grizz has been there since Oct I believe, Things are looking good if you ask me.

The only Issue I ever Heard was that if you gave them more than a 5volt signal you needed to flip a switch on the amp. This was not mentioned in the manual. If you did not the amp was prone to malfunctioning. The Van Gogh are one of the most sought after SS amps on ebay.

I can't agree with that. Most Class A, certain Rubis and Refs, D etc will bring in more money in good condition than a Van Gogh ever will. I've only seen the VGA1600 come close.

Few problems I've seen with the VGA, have been lack of fuse protection, the output stages frying, along with with the protection circuits doing old things (only way i can describe it) Then getting the amps fixed from SS was a pain also.

Maybe new management will bring the company back...but I have my doubts.

There have been a few Rubi or Ref 604's of recent that climbed out of my range fast. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/frown.gif.a3531fa0534503350665a1e957861287.gif

In Dec I sold a New 500/4 for $510.00ebay with shipping. The 1600 the 800 and 320.4 also catch good prices. I also said one of the highest. I know the old Chrome amps will always be the ones that go the highest. But the Van Goghs are the most sought after post 2001 amps.
