Soundstream 2200 watt D-Tower Amp

Design is much like the AP15001 amp... but this board is a little beefier than that. I have an "1800" board from the same build house and this board has more power supply FETs and caps. Means it will probably do ~2000 on 14.4v / 1 ohm resistive on a test bench.

The new AP amps are also made at a different factory, although, the design is VERY similar. There are 3-4 factories making boards on this design.

I think it's a good budget design - I've tested a BUNCH of amps from this factory over the years. They are no match for a real competition grade amp... but for the $ I think they are pretty decent. I'd take them over alot of other stuff out there in the price range.

Looks like a Soundmagnus Build, Same as Reference Hi-Fi, Massive and a few others.

Crazy looking heatsink though.

youd be surprised at what those comps can take, i was at a show and a guy had two 1500w amps strapped at 2 ohm to two 15" comps (single 4) and he put up a 150.xx

jake you mean the apx line vrs the ap line? audiopipe has used 2 seperate build houses for yrs. they dropped the gm line up and went with the apx.

i have yet to install a apx3500. i was gonna be the first one to get one then they really didnt want to give me any break off my dealer pricing. this was before they hit the market couldnt give me a guts shot or really tell me much about it cause they didnt know.

when you get into higher end amps there is no to few wires on the pcb...

I don't think it will be that much of a issue as long as you have slack in the line.I'll be installing the 4 channel version from this line in the next few days. Ill take some gut pics as well.

How about the Ref1.1000? I believe you mentioned a possible October availability. I need one to go with my 4.920 BADDDDDDDD! What is up wth SS and this amp? Thanks.

Sadly the 1.1000 is still in the testing stage. They 1.500 will be shipping real soon tho.

ahh got ya. cheaper design no doubt but if it works and is reliable it all good.

i bet in 2010 there will be even more budget friendly amps on the market.

That design type has made alot of progress... I tested earlier versions in 2006 before I chose to go the route I did with Sundown and wasn't really impressed at all. The newer stuff is getting better.

I think the e-bay price @ $311 is not too bad, IMO.

****, that sucks to hear! It sounds like if I want to have a matched set of amps (anytime soon) I should start looking elsewhere. Too bad... I had high hopes for the SS amps after being a long-time PPI fan. Oh well, I can't wait forever so I guess its time to start shopping around again. Thanks for the reply btw.

the 1.500's started shipping today. The 1.1000 is a few weeks away. So I would wait it out.

Cool so $225 would be an excellent deal then.Word. Just replaced my Old School Rubicon 600-4 with the 4.500 from this series. I am rather impressed so far. Still have to do some tweaking tho. But first impression is good over all.
