Soundproofing existing room?

My brother moved out a while ago so i turned his bedroom into a "bandroom" of sorts to give me and my buds a place to play. Only problem now is the family is *****in about the noise, which i can understand. So to avoid moving to my garage i would like to sound proof the room. The proucts ive found so far are outrageous in price and impracticle (sp) for my application. Anyone ever covered a room in heavy carpet? Know where to get LOTS of thick foam or eggcrate? Anyone ever done this before? TIA

There's a sound deadening board that is sold at Home Depot. That's what we used to make a studio room in our basement. Doesn't completely take out all the noise, but it does make it a lot quieter and gives you better sound isolation in the room.
