It appears people need an outlet to discuss this, so I thought I'd start the thread where people can post their thoughts about the subject without it resulting in a breaking of the rules (i.e. post dumping), since it's apparent most people have a strong opinion about this one way or the other.

Now, to make this a fruitful discussion and not just bickering.....let's give it some direction;

What exactly within a speaker wire can affect the "sound quality" of said wire?

What exactly is it within the properties of a wire that could cause any changes in "sound quality"?

Others must have sensitive ears. I used pretty much every kind of speaker wire I have come across. And noticed no audible difference from changing just the speaker wire //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

Things that can affect sound : Conducter material ( silver , copper , ect ) , insulation ( PVC , Teflon , ect ) , Wire guage , Conducter shape ( solid round , stranded , rectangular solid core , ect ) ....

My opinion : ALL same guage stranded wire will sound the same. 12 guage stranded will sound like 12 guage stranded from another manufacturer. Getting into unusual conducter shapes , different insulation properties , and different conducter materials WILL have an effect on the sound ......

Why does wire variables have an affect on sound ? Every piece of equipment has different input tolerances and impedences. Resistant impedence of a wire can change DRASTICALLY the way a piece of equipment reacts to the incoming or outgoing signal. The more expensive and well desinged the components of a system are , the more likely a person will hear changes due to wire swaps.

Most differences in sound of cables is very minor , but sometimes it is very noticible. I have found some cables to make a system sound harsh and edgy , and another cable make the same system sound dull and uninvolving.

IMO , each person should listen for themselves to see if THEIR hearing abilities can make out differences in cables and judge for themselves if it is worth it to them , but NO person should ever say anything dispariging to someone who does enjoy hearing differences for themselves ...... IE ; No-one can hear for anyone else.Good Luck , this should be interesting .....

in a car....no ,unless you plan on doing some serious competing....I always say that speaker wire and interconnects are icing on the cake....interconnects IMO always make the biggest difference with speakerwire make very subtle difference...but these are differences you'll hear when everything else is perfect.....but I will say, that I am very proud to have what I feel are some of the best cables money can buy going into my truck, and I'm very confident that they will take my system to a whole nother level....
