Sony Xplods

Hey guys, i need some advice. I want two subs (10s or 12s) in my trunk of my GrandAM. I was thinking about getting Sony Xplods but ive heard that they short out a lot, and that im just paying for the name. Is this true? should I go with the Xplods? or should i go with another company? What company (and style of sub if you know) should i be getting? Thanks

Sony makes good stuff,at affordable prices. If you want a everyday listening sub and don't want a crazy spl sub sony will do the job.People put down sony day after day but buy your stuff at a large store that has a 30 money back so if for any reason you don't like the sony's you don't have to worry about selling them or getting your cash back.I bought the sony d-class amp thinking i would bring it back because people say bad stuff about sony and i really like the amp and it sounds great, good enough i know it will do well at the comps.//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

paying for the name? in most cases, yes, you do just pay for the sony name on their products. In this case however, I got two 12" subs off ebay for 120 (including shipping). Add that to the 200 for my jbl amp and another 20 for box materials (I made my own) I paid about 350 for entire setup. even if sony subs are the best, they sure are a good place to start for beginners with just a little cash.

the new sony 12's with the red cone 900 watts max are decent little subs cehap too...

i was in future shop, tehy ahd a 2 of these running fo a RF bd500.1 so they were seeing like 700 RMs watts, and they were in this i think it was ported box...

they sounded pretty decent, got loud enuf and were decently clean...

thy ones iwth teh silver (aluminum) cone are supposed to be alittle bit better but i ahvent heard them..

also, suprisingly enuf to me,... the xplods were being run and they ahd no problem wahtsoever with them, no problems, running clean, no shorting nuttin..

take alook..

yep 400 will get you 2 brahma's which are awesome subs for the price. i've only heard the 1 setup in a guys car who was running like a RF 360.2 to it and it hit hard. also clean but that was a few months ago, even still the brahma's will hit hard and are cheaply priced.

keep it thumpin,

"Sony Xplods"... why yes they do. lol

seriously, like many others have said, they are a cheap half decent entry level sub (i should know 'cause my first subs were 2 10" xplods in a band-pass box...uugh!) but you can definately do alot better for 400 bucks if that is what you are really willing to spend. i did in fact have one of the afformentioned subs retire early (fry) after about a year. but other than that i look back on them as the stepping stone to a great hobby... car audio! if you have the money (and 400 is the money) buy some thing better.

For really really cheap subs, Sony Xplods are at best okay in my opinion. Compared to the quality you can get with the money you're willing to spend though, they're just trash. From what I hear the best bang for your buck subs are the Infinity Reference, you might want to check those out, they're not too bad on the wallet, and sound pretty decent

it all depends on what you want. if he is looking for mainly good hard spl with not too much sq then get RF subs. won't cost you anymore than the reference series subs.

keep it thumpin,

adam
