Story:

I was building a new box for my 12's so I had no subs installed in the car. Just for the heck of it I threw my crappy Kicker Comp 10 w/ sealed box in there. Rated @ 150w or something. I hooked the comp up to my Saz-3000D and set the gain @ 0.

I simply could not believe the output of the little crappy 10. It still had the power to shake the car, windows, mirrors etc. And it still got very low and sounded pretty good! I was careful w/ the volume since it was being powered by the 3000D.

Basically I make this thread because I had very low expectations for a single 10. It wasnt able to get as loud as 2 12's (obviously), but it was much louder than I expected! WTF

Efficiency.

Your 150w Kicker 10 is probably 6 to 10 decibels more efficient than a modern 400oz magnet "3,000w" sub that takes 1,000w just to get the voicecoil moving.

I was thinking it had something to do with that. Im so used to running expensive amps and subs that I guessed the 10 would have nothing on them.

I really really wanted to, but I wanted to keep that 10 around just for times like this when Im subless.

It really makes me wonder why we today run 2-5k watts daily when back then, their "100w woofers and 200w amps" could achieve almost the same result. Is it just marketing? Make subs able to handle more power and less efficient so we then need to get huge amps, bigger wire etc etc?
