I was just riding down the road and having got my Brahma back, I put it back it. Well I found my old Jay-Z CD with Money Cash on it. Playing that song, I was admiring the excursion capabilities of this beast, and all of a sudden the bass dimmed down significantly. I pulled over into a parking lot and opened the tailgate and I was supprised to see...that the Brahma had blown itself out of the box. Simply amazing. Just thought I'd share this with yall.

Not to diss your abilities as a box fabricator or anything, but no matter how powerful a sub is there is no reason it should be able to dislodge itself from the box. I'll admit that the Brahma is a mean sub, but there's no way it could destroy a properly built enclosure. Did you leave some screws out or something? When you rebuild the box try double baffeling the front and possibly building a cradle for the sub's magnet to sit in so that there's less strain on the front of the box.

In all my years of building boxes, I've never seen a sub actually blow itself out of the box.....and I've seen some pretty flimsey enclosures and some pretty f'n mean subwoofers in my day.

Hahaha...in your day...the problem was that I drilled it in the same holes as the XXX was mounted in. Plus, I did not build the box, dreid did. I don't think that you want to say anything about his box building skills. I suggest you check your attitude and know the facts before you post something like this again.

heh, I have heard of many subs ripping themselvs right out of boxes...

Brahma's and XXX's in particular...

thats what happens when you get such vicious excursion... so much moving mass and intertia, its bound to happen eventually, lol.

best way to keep it from happening owuld be the reinforce the mounting poitns... either putting in a second mounting ring, or doubling up the MDF on the front piece...

all of the box builders around here tell me that the boxes are only meant to have subs screwed into them once. As far as that theory goes, when you took out the XXX and put in the brahma it probably weakened the screw holes quite a bit...

Can't say i know why it would do that, for i am no box builder nor will i ever be...

That is not entirely true...you can use it more than once, but not in the same hole...whic is what I lazily did.

yeah that is what i meant, i knew that you could simply make new holes, but they say not to use the same ones.

Yeah, when the screw goes in it bites into the MDF and stays there, when you take them out and put them back in, the screw wont be able to bite as much since some of the MDF has worn away, resulting in a much weaker connection. Youd either have to use slightly bigger screws or drill new holes. Not doing so, and using a Brahma will undoubtedly lead to the sub blowing itself out of the box.

man i think you guys blew that way outta proportion...he didnt even diss anyone, just said what he thought, which is also what i thought basically, until you mentioned that you used the old holes. but hey, i probably would have too.
