Some small subs coming out...

someone please enlighten me... why, in these extreme subwoofer applications, is neodynium not being used more (as Diamond has been doing a bit of), specifically to decrease the insane size of the magnet assembly?

Yea, it is a show-stopper by looks, but not particularly practical for many people, even those wanting extreme performance at any price (space/weight being a factor).

I'm not arguing, but anyone willing to spend the $$ on those woofs pro'lly wouldn't mind the tag on the same thing with Neo's that they could actually fit some place without taking up all their usable storage space or weighing down their suspension-sensitive vehicle. I'm actually one of those people -- surely there's more of a market for less-bling, more-performance out there right? Doh... who am I kidding?... lol

Diamond has some Neo' pure treat subs out there, competing firmly with comparable Ferrite/ceramic mag subs in ... eh... kinda' close... price ranges, and they are highly regarded. Why in the world wouldn't some of the most extreme and ambitious subs out there take the same approach, casting cost asside in observance of purity and performance? I dunno... Maybe I'm just a dreamer.

Wouldn't've even posted if those pic's weren't as seeeexxy as they are. Just wish I could do that kind of thing in my grocery-getter *drooool*

It all has to do with marketing

Bigger= better

Such is not the case with ferrite vs NEO but it just doesnt look as manly.

Dan Wiggins, CEO od Adire Audio even said so himself...if we used neo mags that were smaller our sales would drop.

So it has 8" of xmax...

So that means its gonna have 8" of xmag..

So the motor has to be at least a rough guess of 12.5" deep for coil clearence only...(8 inches of xmag + 1.5 inches of coil + 1 more inch to make sure it can get there.....plus the 2 inch bottom..)

....at that is BARE MINIMUM with the coil set center gap...with a 3" winding length... otherwise the coil is gonna be tap dancin on the back plate like a 7 year old dance team....

But...then where is the suspension going to go? Your basket is going to have to have 9" from the spider to the top plate in order for them not to hit the top plate as well...

...just some questions...better get the engineer on here to explain it...

edit: ...come to think of it...the motor has to be 16" tall bare minimum to achieve this...and that's if the coil is out of the top plate and slapping the backplate...

edit2: If you need to learn the technical stuff and are willing to learn...ill help you...

No **** Nick, agree 100%...

Look at all the n00bxs going, "oooOOooOOHH, AaaaAAAaaaAAhHhH!!!!1"...

Too bad I don't buy bull****.

Hmm...

Physics FTW?

he must've been drunk. It's easy to mis-type 8" xmax vs. end-to-end excursion when stroking HS kids' boners on car audio forums in a hurry. *heheh* fully joking

Still, impressive goals being set there. I'm glad to see someone on that forum also mentioned running Neo for the mag... almost seems like a no-brainer at this extreme level. These f'ers aren't ever going to see the shelves of Best Buy or Circuit Shitty, so I darn sure hope their buyers know what the f'k they're getting into and know that "big doesn't equate to performance or "cool"".
