soldering ring terminals

This might be a really dumb question, but:

I have heard a person or two say not to solder your ring terminals and amp connector terminals to the wire thats being attached and to just clamp them. This seems wierd. I always have soldered them to the terminals. what do you suggest I do. How does the wire stay in the terminal if you don't solder it?

If its clamped good enough, it shouldn't need soldering.

those 4 guage terminals look hella hard to clamp!

Vice grips work good for clamping them hella snug.

I do both crimp then solder.

Then dont ever worrie about the wire coming out.

My local audio installer solders them also cause morons don't like to bolt their stuff down, then they complain when the wire gets jerked out of the terminal.

I always us a bench vice to crimp and then it's all ready to solder the end closed so no water gets in there. Just need a torch and some heat shrink.

when ever i need to crimp o awg termianls i just wrap in a peice of cloteh and hammer the sh!t out of it on the concrete floor. works great. the cloth is so the terminal doesnt get damaged.

To really clamp good its wise to get a clamping device, like one you hammer on after inserting the wired crimp. Im lucky enough to have a father who has access to a hydraulic crimper at his work lol..

But for the 4 gauge stuff I just take a hammer, lay it on its side(nice big flat surface, then trim the wire, stick it in the terminal, set it on the side of the hamemr, thn take another hammer and give it a couple good whacks.. works great. My dad is an electrician by trade, and programs/repairs robots that build cars, so this technique has been proven time and time again to not **** balls, or be as ghetto as a concrete floor technique lol. Crimp it well enough and soldering really wont make any noticible difference.

my terminals were crimped...unfortunately ive come to find my hardware moves around quite a bit in my trunk and caused me a blown amp. from now on im going to solder AND bolt my stuff down. no more 30 minute installs.
