so..

Depends on what power you're running to them. I had a Stetsom 2k6d running to the MX 15" and it was pushing it to it's limit. So if you're running more than about 2500wrms to each sub the XXX is the better woofer to have gone with. I liked that the MX had the Neo mag so it wasn't all that heavy and I'm not positive but I think I read somewhere that the MX had slightly better SQ (although I think there was some mechanical noise associated with it as well). Either way if I were you I would have bought some TC 5200/5400's, Xcons, or even the new Nightshades for around the same price.
As expensive as the new xxx is, the TC 5200 and 5400 models are even more outrageously priced.

why 11 hz... isnt that too low?
Considering the FS of an 18" XXX is 15hz... no lol

But to give you an idea of how big the boxes should be, they should be a little more than twice the usual for their size. For example, a 12" XXX sealed would require around 2.0-2.5 cu ft, while other general 12s require only 1 cu ft. Ported for a 12" i'd say should be around 4-5 cu ft tuned in the low 20s

well what else would he use it for... a paper weight?
but any advice on the port mess?
The guy was more than likely using it in a ridiculous home theater setup.

Unfortunately I'm not a Winisd or enclosure guru. I pay people to design enclosures when I'm in over my head.

For sealed systems, I dont know of any other sub that could even compete with a new xxx. For sealed systems, excursion (xmax) is very important for output. Much more so than vented systems. And since no other production sub is even close to 50+mm xmax, it reigns supreme. Its down side is the large enclosure needed to get a desirable alignment. But again, ignoring the large enclosure requirement, for sealed systems there is no other sub that compares in terms of output potential.

In fact, the xxx's output potential in a sealed setup is so extreme, it borderlines on rendering itself unnecessary. Most people that hell bent on high output levels will simply chose a more conventional driver and run it vented.
