thats not a completley fair answer. saying DC is better quality than SSA, SA, AQ, FI, etc is quite ignorant. i personally have no "reason" to give as to why their stuff is more or less expensive. they make good stuff, just like the companies i listed above.

well matt first off ssa ,sa, and fi dont make amps.reason for the high price comes from the actual design ,performance ,and the shipping .sundown,and dd amps are pretty much in the same price point ,true that aq is owned by the dd owners son , but the quality of the parts aren't the same as dd either.alot pf the amp builders use the same boards but not the same parts ,some are more costly than others.;

DC sounds better, can handle more, looks better, is built better, is generally better in every way. Not to mention, $600 on DC will get you an 18" Level 5 (I believe, don't quote me on that, I don't know their prices that well), and the Solo X is up around $1k correct? That's like a race between an Olympic runner and a high school track runner. And since you probably didn't catch it, the DC is the Olympic runner in that example.

Edit: Oh man, thought you were talking about the kicker. But yeah, I said I didn't know their prices well. They are pretty secretive. I don't like that about them.
