So tell me about the Pioneer ground trace problem...

I've got a couple year old DEH7400MP and I've been farting aroudn with my install shop on a ground issue. I run just the front rca's out from the deck to an Alpine 3331 EQ (great old school EQ by the way) and from there split the signal into front, rear and sub outputs. The issue was when you run both front and rear RCA's to my Profile 4 channel amp....bad buzz. Remove either rca at the amp...problem gone. To fix shop basically used only set of RCA's and Y'd them off to run into both amp channels. buzzing gone...but no front/rear fade.

I replaced the Profile amp prior to this as the shop originally told me that it was the amp. Steve at Profile said something about a ground trace issue with Pioneer...but I honestly didnt listen. (my bad).

So...whats the buzz (litterally) on this issue? Is it something I can fix myself? (I did electronic tech work for years.

This may sound stupid, but did you check to be sure that your RCA cables were not run near any power sources? Especially the amp power cable. If the cables are cheap, they'll get interference from power cables or get alternator wine in the signal. Check this if you haven't already and be sure the cables are at least 8" from a power cable.

If not that, I guess what they may mean is the Pioneer HU has a weak ground source. All I could think to do would be to double check the ground wire on both the amp, and the radio.

Pioneers have a tendancy to short out internally I later found out when mine broke

IE: remove an RCA while the unit is powered up and poof, its over.

Major whine and buzzing occur even with the engine off

And that is wht Ill never buy a Pioneer HU ever again, they are tempermental

besides,the new Excelons pwn all

I'm hoping the shop tried all the things mentioned. I told them to run a ground from the HU back to the amp ground so they were at the same potential. They said they did and it didnt make any difference. Thats why I'm so curious about the Pioneer trace issue. Seems like they tried everything else.

I had this same thing happen to my 7500 and when I was trying to figuire it out I accidentaly touched the head unit ground to the ground of one of my amps and the noise stopped.

...........and do what?? Maybe he can't afford to junk it. Send it to Pioneer and have them fix this. I hear its a one time courtesy fix.

You see, thats what we call helping people.....not just displaying the obvious hard on you have for Pioneer.

By the way I've owned quite a few Pioneer head units in my days and I've never had anything but minor issues with them. This was a problem these new units had but is now fixed and the newer units do not have this problem anymore. I haven't had any problems with my 860.

Thanks. I ignored the "junk it" comment as it was obviously not intended to do much other than waste my time reading it.

So you say you touche the rca ground to the vehicle ground and that stopped the noise. How did you manage a permanent fix for that?

Also, how long did it take Pioneer to fix the HU if it was sent in? I dont want to be without a stereo for very long.

THanks all.

I'd send it in, I sent mine out and had it fixed in a week. If you get one day shipping I'd imagine 3 days. I'd make sure they have all the paperwork in order as it can be a nightmare when they don't know where or what to do with it.

Nah I dont have a hard on for Pio,I have been using Pio since 1984

it wasent till recently when I started experimenting with other headunits

that I found out just how poorly made they actually were.

I have owned about a dozen head units in the last 2 years,Pio,Alpine

Clarion and Excelon and after messing with all the models I have discovered

without a doubt that todays Excelons were the better sounding of the bunch

This would have never happened if my Pio didnt blow its internal ground.

(or what ever it's called)

So maybe the Junk It comment was not called for,my bad.

Send your HU in for warrenty if you have the recept,in about 3 weeks youll have a repaired hu from Pioneer,if you can wait that long I obviously couldent.

Well, different strokes for different folks I guess. I've always thought that Alpine was cheaply made which has always kept me away from them. I realize Kenwood makes a better head unit now but for a good 10-15 years there they made some real shitty stuff. Which is why most people won't run Kenwood in their car, no consumer confidence in the products.

I've used Pioneer since I got my driver's license in 1987. I've had nothing but good luck with them. From my KE-6262 and KEH-7272 to my most recent DEH-P920R and DEH-P860 I've had nothing but good luck. I've gone away a few times and tried other brands such as Alpine and Eclipse but I've always ended up going back to Pioneer.//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif
