So, something did get into my BTL gap...Pics

Well, some might know I had a rubbing coil out of blue on my BTL but the sub wasnt blown and both coils read fine on DMM. It literally wasnt rubbing one day and then was the next. I was convinced that something had to get down into the coil. So I decided to hack it up since I would need a recone anyway. Turns out, I was right. Onto some pics:

At least I wont have the down time of shipping the sub back to FI and waiting to be sent back to me not to mention the shipping cost from hawaii on 70lb sub. Now I just have to wait for my recone. And d@mn, that is some wicked strong glue. I have to take a grinder to the basket to get that ish off.

I found the same **** thing in one of my ed 19ov.2s

I think it was stuck somewhere else, and fell down into the gap after a while

probably came that way from the buildhouse

I cant figure out for the life of me how the hell it got in there. I dont even know what the hell its for. Its about the size of an eyeglass screw. I'm still at a loss about how in the hell something that small managed to find its way through one of the cooling vents on the basket. WTF??!! LOL

It has the be from production. Remember those subwoofers are ALL made by hand meaning someone is bound to mess up with something. Besides, isn't that whole section where the voice coil is sealed?!

not on these subs no. there are little holes in the basket that show the coil. but i agree, it seems that it would have to be from production. i dont see a magnet that strong, allowing a screw to actually move around to get to the gap.

Thats the same thing I was thinking. If that screw came from anywhere else, it would have just gotten stuck to the side of the magnet. There's no way that thing could have made it in the cooling vents on the basket. But oh well, Thats pretty much just my luck. I'm just happy I dont have to ship it out now. At least now I can just recone it myself and not have so much time without my sub. Pretty shitty deal though

Not a screw like that around there...only kinds of screws that are around is the ones that go in the top plate, and the big drywall screws for the shipping crates.

Casper - make sure you do not breathe ANY of the CA fumes when you grind the basket, it is VERY toxic and VERY painful if you breathe it or if you get it in your eyes they itch for days. Use a mask and goggles when grinding the basket down with the flapper disc.
