So, Limewire is ghey... what p2p source do you use?

I'll tell you one method that has started a buzz among some economists is those groups that release a CD online and the patron contributes what they feel the albumn is worth. If you download it, think it is worthless, you pay nothing for it. You feel it is a great CD, you can pay what you would like. It is quite revolutionary when you think about it. And from what I have read, the artist makes good money as well.

There's no doubt that the costs of an album are artificially inflated to line the pockets of the record company...but that is there prerogative as an American, is it not? And many artists will suffer if they don't have a major label....having a major label is usually how you get heard to sell albums in the first place.
I only pay for vinyl.
So the record company should distribute the music for free? It seems they should receive some financial gain for setting up distribution channels, advertising, etc. The companies made substantial investments in hopes of making a profit. It isn't a charity.

Free Lossless Audio Codec.
thanks. so can you get these files as torrents? i use torrents and have never heard of flac. is it like a .flac file or something? //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/confused.gif.e820e0216602db4765798ac39d28caa9.gif

Jesus H...lol ok well i guess like i said there is nothing inherently wrong with a system that legalizes theft whenever it works towrds the systems advantage. And if you cannot understand such, you must not have been around many artists that deal with record companies and their contracts.Oh and now you dont have to have major label support to get heard...Downloading is a major force with that having occurred.

What about when people would record music on a cassette was that illegal.
You also didn't have a distribution system in place where you could share that cassette with thousands of friends worldwide, either //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

I use private trackers like What.cd & Waffles.fm usually, but even the public ones like ThePirateBay and Mininova have FLAC torrents...usually you want one that has an Exact Audio Copy log and maybe a .cue file for burning to disc...

The sad thing is when you have artists that want to say we are stealing...And we are the reason that you make any money at all!!!You Idiots...but the record company is paying you for 12 to 15 percent of your own intellectual property...whos the thief???And...i never ever saw or heard anyone say anything about the people that made my modems or CD burners being even partially responsible for putting the ability into my hands to even share music for free.Hmmmm i guess its all right because, its all white??? lol

im not sayin its on them. But just like in the dope game!!!The ones that bring the dope in the country hardly ever do any time. However in the streets You will get 20 years for a rock!

Gotta love america.
You were all over the place, but I don't know. I thought it was illegal to SHARE the files. I thought finding it was what the internet was for. I limited my spending to the artists that i like. I always buy Jay-Z, Outkast, Kanye, Common, Mos Def, Nas, Etc. They can keep all the "Youngs" and Lil's. They not even worth me risking a thousand dollars a song. Last album I bought was American Gangster. Before that, Graduation and Eardrum. Because it's so much shit out there now, I can see why people don't want to buy albums. But I just narrow mine down to quality music. Sorry, but Soulja Boy don't fall under my quality category.

No. I am only familiar with the structure of contracts. It is my understanding that they do not have to sign a contract.

I agree its not a charity...HOWEVER the basic fact is this. All the things a record company does, they could do on 60 percent profit, even 70 percent and do it well. But they wont, and artists want to get mad at their fans over getting a garbage deal???at 30 percent they would be making double the normal contract and that will likely never happen. lol My point is this.

Yes record companies deserve to make money for all they do,however, what could they do if they had NO artist to do stuff for???

Pretty mixed results so far and likely not very profitable for lesser known artists. I love the concept, though.

lossless quality sound files.
like 800-1,000 kbs, rather than 96-320 kbs quality of mp3s.
Bitrate doesn't really have anything to do with quality....

I'm saying that the price of a CD would be substantially lower if it weren't for the record label. Yes, they deserve to make a profit for the work they do, and a tidy profit they do make. If the artist agrees to give the % they do and a customer agrees to pay the money for the CD, then by all means...those at the top of the record label have earned their dollar.

But what happens when the customer doesn't want to pay that money anymore?
