i d/l'd the eliot lipp. listening to it now. thanksi'm listening to a CD i got yesterday.
It's pretty kick ***.
To me, there are a number of middle-men at the moment...I think we are seeing it now with a fragmented marketplace. There is music available for a wide variety of avenues. I actually think it will be good for the music industry as a "quality of music" concern. Because I listen to rap (//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/crap.gif.7f4dd41e3e9b23fbd170a1ee6f65cecc.gif) much of it is formula based...where the musician becomes the puppet of the industry, particularly of the record label. As the record labels lose more and more money due to downloading, alternative distribution mechanisms, etc...they may decide to "get out of the game." Doing so (in my fantasy land) will level the playing field with artists without such a record contract, advertising budget, radio time, etc. It will allow the artists to be creative again.
I think it will be good.
I want to be a derivatives trader, not a laywer. I do this for fun.You sir would make a great lawyer...lAnd no but it is necessary to have somethign like an order or a deed to get the land.
They sold the album as a download from their website and in a separate special edition box set.I like the
artist --> consumer approach...that way the artist can receive direct feedback...and create music more focused. However, there is far far less money with that. The people who pass out CDs on 2nd avenue (Middle TN's 'party' district) take this approach, but their is no opportunity to try.
Did I misunderstand that Radiohead approach? I thought they where selling the CD direct from the website?
For In Rainbows, Radiohead retained ownership of the album recordings and song compositions. The download and "discbox" versions of the album are self-released by the band, for the CD release, the band is licensing the music to record labels. The album's licensing agreements for all releases are managed by the band's publisher Warner Chappell Music Publishing.
