Well i can tell you for 100 percent fact, you are wrong. Under normal conditions sure, it may take them 3 days to get a search warrant. If they want a search warrant bad enough they will get it. It is not that hard of a process.

ya, they can get a search warrant in an hour, If your a killer on the run and time is of the essance, But if your some punkass kid with a crappy car, then they just tow your car, put in impound, and drag thier feet waiting for one to get issued. In the meantime, you pay $100 plus a day storage, probly get your stuff jacked, and have no car. Then when the search and release the car, its probly gonna cost more then the car is worth. but go ahead. refuse a search. just make sure you got cash on the other end.

Or dont do stupid things.

I see nothing wrong with what the OP did. He handled it in a calm, cool manner and he walked away with no tickets. If you don't have anything to hide, let them search, that is unless you were a real ******* or they need to meet quota at the end of the month. Then some how they will find something. Happend to a friend of mine. Thing was he swore up and down he didn't have anything in the car, but he just got down smoking a joint the night before. Showed up on the drug test and the god dam cops planted the shit. What a shitty coincidence!(sp)

If you have nothing to hide and handle it cool with the cop and isn't near the end of the month, accept the search, otherwise refuse it, lol!
