they wanted to search because they wanted to, their is no harm in asking. I am going to guess you have things to hide, along wiht alot of the other guys that have already cried about the op agreeing to a search. Dont cry at the op for having nothing to hide, my guess is the cop was either going to ticket him for being another "punk" or be allowed to search the car and if he found nothing. let the kid go and that is what happened.

Sucks for you but you didn't get any tickets. And for all that are saying "you can't search my car" are fuking idiots. I'd much rather **** it up then to pay 500-600 in fines.

I've gotten pulled 2 times that i was actually at fualt and they wanted to search. 1 was for tint and the other was no seatbelt. I gave a fuss about the tint but finally realized i didn't want to pay 80 bucks for the ticket. Best just to swallow your pride and let them be dicks.

Some Il. Cops are cool. I got pulled over doing like 50 in a 30 zona at like 1:30 am near Arlington Hieghts, and the cop seen I had a motorcycle licence, says"what do you ride?" then let my off. Then about 2:00 am, i got pulled over by the same cop, asks what i was still doing driving around, I told him I was looking for an Irish pub, again he says, "ok, have a good night".

The more important lesson... Cops only screw assholes over little shht. Most people who end up with horror stories didnt know how to swallow their pride and be respectful for 5 minutes.

Theres a dozen different things in that situation that could give probable cause.
