Yeah i got bored today and charged the battery on my car to test my buddys new pioneer subs out, and after showing him that he spent good money on bottom of the line pioneers, i decided to do a lil test. Pioneer Premier TS-W306C - 12" 1000W subwoofer in a 2 cube box (after port displacement) @ 32hz vs. 1990s model Kicker Substation 80 (KS80)8" sub tube. The amp: my beloved /////Alpine MRV-1507 amp, pushing 225w per chanel (for the pioneer) cuz im not about to run a 2 ohm load on my ampin bridged mode... and then i hookecd up the kicker on a single channel, only getting 225w. Now mind you the kicker is made to hit only 150w RMS IIRC. The pioneer did fair.. sounded like *** but this is brand new out of the box. They need to break in first. The kicker on the other hand WANGED my trunk. Im like WTF:eyebrow: ? I got my buddy to sit in the car and we shut the doors to listento the 8 and see how loud she would get and for how long to see if she would blow... she didnt. and kept wangin!... i was like, "this sub has insulted my amp buy not bowing down to its authority, its time to make it pay!" and so i wired it up bridged... which gave it 900w. So i think, okay itll sound good for a bit, and then smoke or something. Well, played it for about 15-20 mins and still no sign of death. Mind i did turn my gain down from its usual setting, nominal notch on the amp... And all this got me thinking, wow this is almost as loud as my 2 12's were in their sealed boxes... and sounds remarkably clean. this it truly a wtf moment. 2 12's sealed = 1 8" tube? I think im just gonna use 1 12 in a huge ported box. How much power can an RE SE handle daily?

i have the pioneers and they dont sound that bad .... yes i know there not the best but i dont have $500 dollars to spend on a subwoofer

me neither. But with the pioneers, ya gotta get the higher ends. The bottom of the line pioneers are like the redheaded stepchild of pioneers lineup. Theyre not bad at all, i think they sound pretty good once broken in... but for the money he spent on em icould slap him. retail prices are a *****.
