im sellin my pioneer HU so i take it out, and i put in my sisters old xplod (yea i know) well i hook all the wires up and put in a cd, its all good. im feeling good about myself, thinking i did a good job...then i go to hook up my RCAs and the xplod xploded....i ****in forgot to cover the wires in electrical tape. can someone please tell me that i didnt **** the cd playerup

Well, all you can do is wait for it to cool down, attach it to an external 12v source (Req your modded PSU tutorial is a GODSEND!) and test it.

I say external because it is just SO much easier to test a HU on a level table with all necessary tools around you than in a car, where you are potentially sitting on your wire cutters ever 2 minutes. =\

Dang! You're right, I forgot all about the fuse. Shame on me, that's what made me think I killed my comp amp a few weeks ago.

Yes, replace the fuse if necessary.

i checked the fuse on the cd player, the fuse coming off my power wire under my hood, and my fuse in my fusebox for my radio. all of which were fine.

but the odd thing is, it still takes, and ejects CD's, the cdplayer just wont do anything else.

well i must have seriously ****ed something up, cause i just hooked up the stock radio/cassette player and i didnt get anything....so something tells me its not the cd player ****ed up, but rather my electrical system.

Do you get signals from the pre-outs? If so, you fried the internal amp. It happens. Depending on the application, it's either a very horrible thing, or nothing at all. If my HU had it's internal amp fried, I'd never notice.

EDIT: Sounds like you might have to start from scratch. 9v battery to every speaker, and testing every channel on every amp one at time. It's time consuming, so get a girl to keep you company >=). Pick a nice day, set up a table (sheet of plywood + sawhorses) and go for it.

EDIT2: Unless of course, you just blew up the RCA cables. That's quite logical, But the first edit can be so much more fun!

i rechecked my fuses and the one from my power wire looks crooked, ive never seen a bus fuse blow before so i didnt know what i was lookin for. so i went to the parts store and they didnt have a 70A so i guess i gotta hit up radio shack tomorrow and hope thats the problem.

The only difference between a normal fuse and a blow fuse is one won't keep a current. For large fuses like that, usually it will blow and the opening is so small you will never see it. Only way to test it is the same way you test for conductivity in anything else. (Usually multimeter)

/OT/

(Req your modded PSU tutorial is a GODSEND!)
got any pictures ;D

you gotta test EVERYTHING, sound like one of the wires shorted out tho - strange how the player still gets power. most likely has to do with the stage that is giving speakers sound.

any external amplifiers?

well it's ok man... you did yourself a favor //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif one more xplod exploded and gone from the face of the planet...
