I just picked up a L7 brand new for 170$ from my friend. I hooked it up, set all my hu stuff to zero and figured I'd run the amps. (Components included)

Well, fixed all of the gains and stuff on the amps. The L7 sounds nice hits haaaard and such. Well im playin some deep bass songs and after i smell crap. Is this the coil or the excess glue.

I open the trunk and I hear the sub. My box is 2.0cu ft tuned to 38hz. I am only running 500rms to it. It sounds like crap, but when I shut the trunk and go up front it sounds absoluetly fine.

I don't wanna blow this sub because its niiice and it hits.

So is it the smell of burning glue or what?

EDIT: Also when I turn it down, in like 5mins the smell goes away, so this is confusing.

hmm, well i've blown a few subs in my day (including the R) and it smelt the same way, but the last sub I had (Lightning Audio Strike) smelt the same way, but it ran fine.

No, I don't have a ssf. The gain is a little past half way, no bassboost. Crossover I don't even fuk with because I'm not sure where to set it to so its at 40hz.

I have freq settings on the HU, there all set at 50hz. If I go higher is sounds like azz.

your low pass is set around 50hz? thats not right.

You need to set the xover and gain properly as well as pick up an ssf before you lock the ***** up. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/frown.gif.a3531fa0534503350665a1e957861287.gif

40hz is way to low

ok wots an ssf, lol i thought it was a filted located on the amp.

What should the xover be set at? Is there a reccomended setting? I can put my LPF either 50hz 80hz or 120hz or thorough. The gain is the least of my worries as of now because I have a dmm.

so you set the gain with the dmm as best as possible? SSF=sub sonic filter. Doesnt have to be on the amp but many amps have one. I'd set the lpf to 80

what do you mean what is the xover setting? are you asking what it does? You can just pick up an inline 35hz ssf for prolly $20 at a shop(if they have it) or you may need to purchase an eq or something that comes with an ssf built into it. I believe partsexpress has the inline ones.
