With the exact same sub what would you expect to be different between a 10" and a 12"....

I don't have enough room to do two 12" subs ported... So I was thinking two 10's ported..

I mean there must be a reason why some chose different sized subs (besides available space)

Thanks

Depends on the install and/or knowledge, which from the looks of it, is not that great.

So you are saying that a 10" woofer in a proper box at say 500w would sound exactly the same as its counter part 12" in a proper box at 500w???

I don't think I'd go that far, but i would say that the difference would be minimal, and possibly, not noticeable. I would say go with the 2 10's. Most likely the space you have available, will more closely match what the 10's require than what the 12's will want.
