small sealed box - polyfill yes or no ?

I had hardly any room to make the box that holds 2 of the 6.5" component mids for my car. I diddnt realley take any time to calculate the airspace inside it - but its pretty small for both of the 6.5" mids in there I believe

what exactly does polyfill do again ?

and will gutting the stuffing out of a bear work semi similar ?

or does it definately need to be the real deal polyfill that parts express sells ?

I think I remember reading something about how the sound waves react with the fill and something about long grain strands of fill doing something to give the same effect as tricking the speaker in to thinking its a bigger box maby ?

it was a while ago so maby not

thanks in advance for any advice you can toss my way about polyfill / box dampning materials - how and why and in what case instances they should be used. a link to a topic would also be sweet.

Polyfill makes a sub think its in a bigger box. Theres a ratio posted on the net somewhere, google is your friend in this case. I use pillow stuffing which you can buy at wallyworld cheap. When stuffing the box pack it loosely in there, if you pack it tight, it does the exact opposite of what you want it to do. Polyfill does have a slight damping effect, meaning that you will lose a small to tiny bit of spl. Bear stuffing may be polyfill, burn a tiny bit of it, if it melts like plastic, its polyfill.

I put polyfil in the boxes with my last setup, it did sound better.

I believe the ratio is 1 lb. for each cu. ft.
