Small, ported

I am looking to build a ported box with max internal dimensions of 36"x7"x16". I know this is small but this is the maximum amount of trunk space I can give up. Can I build a ported box this skinny or should I go sealed? What sub or subs would you recomend for this setup that cost around $300 (for 1 or a pair). One of the biggest problems I have run into is the mounting depth of the sub but I found I can combat this problem by adding an extra piece of 3/4" mdf to where the sub is mounted (i.e. making a sub with a mounting depth of 6" have a depth of 4.5")

Thanks for your help.

36 x 7 x 16 = about 1.5 cubes GROSS.

You could put some ported 8s in there, or some sealed 10s. I'd sugguest ported 8s, cause it's just cool as hell.

isn't it 2.333 cuft? Also, would it be possible to run ports externally like this

Does that make sense? Rather than having the ports outside the box, have them start coming out from the box.
