slotted square port.... whats the diff

I was on audiobahns website using the port length calculator.. and you choose either a round or square port, and i chose square and then it says slotted port, and you can choose yes or no.... and when i click on yes it has a whole different length than when i click on no... whats the difference if its slotted or not.. what is the difference between a slotted square port, and a regular squar port?
