Sleepless Nights...

Well I know there are a few threads similar, but okay.

I suffer from sleeplessness or "insomnia" and have tried several sleep aids. Just about anything you can get over the counter, including Benadryl, NyQuil, Sleep-eeze, and so on. Most of those are all using the same chemical to give the drowsy effect. But they just make my legs restless.

So, I have also tried melatonin, and last night I tried Valerian Root. Well, both of those. 5 Hours up, still no sleep.

I'm at a loss. I don't know what else to try.

I don't really have the cash to go to the doctor and pick up what is it? Ambien? I think that is what everyone raves about. But I'm not convinced it works.

Anyone have any other suggestions? Another Herbal (not MJ) supplement that might help? The chemical ones just make it worse. I guess I would be open to trying Ambien. But I can't just buy it at the store.

The only other thing that has helped is a opiate like Hydrocodone, but since my wisdom teeth surgery, I can't get my hands on that...though it does help.

So far I have tried.

Every combination of dyphenhydramine hcl

Melatonin

Valerian Root.

take a shower before bed.. get a comfier bed
The shower makes me a bit sleepy for about 5 minutes. Even if I stay in till I feel like I could pass out from the steam.

And I just got a new mattress a few months ago.

alcohol ftw //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif
I'm 20, can't purchase it.

You really don't want to go the rout of sleeping pills.......they are extremely habit forming, and before you know it, you won't be able to sleep without them.....that is whats keeping me from taking them.......but insomnia does ****

My problem is, they don't work //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/frown.gif.a3531fa0534503350665a1e957861287.gif.

Another problem is, how much of this is placebo. How much do we do to ourselves? Ugh...

What ones have you had luck with? Something that you can get samples on or anything? I just don't want to pay for a Doctor visit to get 30 pills of something I may not need.

I have been there, alcohol is not the answer. I have been on Rozerem thats prescribed and it didnt work. Benadryl and Unisom, as well as Nyquil. The trick is to relax. Weed works well, or anything that relaxes you. Its all about turning your brain off of thoughts, just stretching muscles and relaxing.

Yeah, the only thing that has had that effect on my is Hydrocodone, but that's not necessarily a easy access over the counter medicine.

do you try to sleep in silence? if so try to turn the radio on low volumes.. if that doesn't work tune to a station you don't get reception so you get the white noise.. turn it on low.. some people respond to that.. as well as pink noise

The best thing Ive found is find a way to chill out and relax first.

Dont just go from doing something and jump in bed.

Turn off all the lights in the house except for your room, brush your teeth/shower or whatever you do before bed. Lay down in bed and watch tv. Make it something mellow and boring like news or whatever and have the volume low.

That will usually knock me out quick. Only times it doesnt is when someone keeps turning on lights or has their tv loud enough for me to here in my room.
