Sirius sounds odd.

Not sure if its just me but Sirius kinda reminds me of a poorly compressed MP3. Although there is no static it just has this strange sound. If it wasn't for the static my FM radio would sound better and HD radio sounds TONS better then Sirius. I don't have the antenna mounted in a great location but from what I understand it either works or doesn't. Anyone else notice this?

Hell its barely FM quality.. yeah there is no static but the sound is very Flat compared to a clear FM signal. Don't think ill pay for it again next month. If the sound was a bit better id keep it but its almost painful to listen to. like a 64kps MP3.

I've had Sirius in my last 3 vehicles, and it sounds fine. It's not audiophile or even cd quality, but it definitely sounds better than normal radio.

Are you guys working with the fm transmitter stand alone units? That would explain your disappointment...

Nope, I have the box that hooks strait up to the Alpine and then the sat part that hooks to that box. I have not mounted my antenna on the roof yet but I didn't think it would make much of a difference. Signal never drops as it is. I have been surfing online and it seems a lot of ppl are complaining about the sound quality. I also heard different channels sound better then others.. possibly less compressed?

i had the same setup, i was totally disappointed with the SQ. i never noticed any difference in channels either....

i have xm in two of my cars and i like it but i agree its not cd quality but better than radio. its not as crisp as i would like but its not bad just have to crank up the volume a bit more than when playing a cd.

XM/Sirius has a fixed bandwidth from the satelite, when you increase the number of channels you must decrease the total info IN each channel. It ends up being compressed just like almost all of the other non-CD digital audio formats.
