Sirius Satellite Alpine CDA-9851 problems

Car Audio Newb here. Installed the above mentioned car stereo approx 10 years ago. About 2 years ago I wasn't able to receive a signal. Brought the car to audio dealer. Was told I needed new stereo because something to effect of an encryption change was made after the Sirius/XM merger. Other than the SAT, the radio is great. My question is, Do i really need a new radio($300+) or a new SAT tuner box($70)?

TIA,

Jim

I have receivers from 2003 that still work. The merger was financial. XM and Sirius still have different satellites and tech.

More likely the antenna wire is damaged. They are not repairable. Replacing the antenna and cable should get you going again.

It'd also possible the reciever box has failed. Getting a new tuner with the antenna would be a safer bet.
