single type r box

ok, so i have decided to build my own box and this is my first time. i have a lot of questions

1) I have decided to go with 2 cubes at 35hz. will the total volume be more than 2 ft. ^3, with the port volume? does the port volume count towards the total volume?

2) do i need to caulk it or is that only for sealed boxes?

3) im sure i could eventually figure it out, but the way my jeep trunk is shaped i need a box that is flat where the sub points out and slanted in the back. like a trapezoid shaped box but with the sub coming out the flat side. could someone possibly make me a blueprint with all the specs for 2 cubes @ 35hz?

the box would have to be a little bigger than 2 cubes before displacement in order to be 2 cubes after you put the port and sub in... probably wanna build it to 2.5 cubes... or go to this link and put in your numbers... you should be able to make the trapezoid shape... just gotta figure out your dimensions...

and as for this question...

by the way the sub is a Alpine 12" 1222D type r. is the hole for the sub exactly 12" in diameter?
no... the hole for the sub is not exactly 12"... unless you dont plan on screwing the sub in lol... that wont work out too well... if you look on alpines website at the specifications of the sub it says that the mounting diameter is 10.9"(275mm)... good thing you asked...

ok, ive been looking for that link everywhere. thanks

how do i go about putting it together? do I just screw the pieces together and leave it at that or do i have to caulk it? and also what kind of screws do I use to screw the sub to the box?

sorry about the double post, but I also need to know if the total volume listed on the reaudio calculator is what the sub is actually in (2 cubes) or if thats the total and I need to make it bigger?

DO NOT CUT A 12" DIAMETER HOLE

ok caps off.

me and de_troit were building his box for 2 12" Type R's... and we cut the holes to 12" and they really only needed to be 10.9. we cut new holes to 11 and double baffled it:furious://content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/furious.gif.fc81ca146dbff91fede3ed290dbc4f4c.gif

A good rule of thumb for cutting out subwoofer holes is to remove the rubber gasket from the basket and trace the inside diameter of it:) It's a pretty good approximation. Just make sure that the circle doesn't warp since rubber is soft/flexible.

K... So you will need wood glue, screws, and caulk... You should caulk the inside in every crease to maximize the air flow going out the port... You don't want air leaking out the cracks... 1 reason is because you will hear it and it gets annoying... And a second reason the tighter your box is sealed off the louder your box will be...
