Single Sub VS Dual Subs

Hi Guys,

I'm looking at designing a system for my SUV and first off I wanted to know if there were any benefits to having dual subs as apposed to one?

Also, I am looking for great sound quality and not so much the boom provided by the sub. Don't get me wrong, everyone loves a loud sub but sound quality is what I am really looking for first and foremost.

Price isn't too much of an issue and I have always been partial to JL Audio. I really like the sound of the W7's but I am not sure if they are worth the money. Also, would I really need 2 W7's or would 1 W7 provide me with ample loudness and quality sounding bass?

I am not narrowing down my options to the W7 but I have heard nothing but good things about them.

Thanks

are u talking about the coil config ? single ohm subs are said to be SQ oriented and dual ohm are directed at SPL "so i was told"

and running 2 W7's would be nice but then if u did that it would be more bass than sound quality... i think u should just get 1 w7 and find an amp that will give u 1000w@3 ohm...

Haha thanks! To be honest, I have no idea what coil config would even do for me. I sell computers/servers for a living so if you need any info on that side of things then I am your guy but when it comes to audio and consumer electronics, I am very limited.

I am looking at getting one 12" W7 but like I said, I would be open to any other options that I may have. Again, keeping sound quality in mind.

Most people say the JL w6 series is more sq orientated than the w7. Since you have the room for 2 subs, if budget allows get 2 subs, but dont underpower them trying to save a buck. 2 JLw6 12's and a 1000/1 would do nicely. Around $1200-1500. 2w7 with 2 Jl1000/1 around $2000-2200. Or you could buy a POS hifonics amp for around $500. That would be a waste of subs in my opinion.

if ur looking for something cheaper i would highly recommend 2 pioneer 3004 SPL's...

they got for about $250 a pair... but it would require about 2000w... a lil high for a daily driver...

Thanks Chucku. I am still wondering if there are any benefits to having 2 subs as apposed to 1. I was told a while back that having 2 subs helps when you have fast hitting bass in turn allowing the bass line to sound a lot more smooth. Is this true?

Coolwazabi, this would definitely be a daily driver. I drive over an hour to work and the same to get back home. That's why I am focusing on the sound quality. I want to get hyped before I get to work and be able to let loose when I get out of work.

Thanks Dylan. Inifinity's are probably the 2nd on my list. Another problem of mine is finding a place where I can demo these quality subs on an equal plane. Most places don't carry subs of the same caliber under one roof.

I had a single 12" diamond audio d6 in my last setup in my old car running on a Rockford Fostgate 1000BD, 1000wrms @ 2Ohms with the gains down low, and it sounded fantastically accurate in a sealed box.

Bass kicks had a lot of warmth and sounded more or less exactly like a real kickdrum was hitting in my trunk, and really that's the point of a sub if you are looking for sq :p

The general concensus is that JL Audio is good, but you can get the same quality in less hyped up brands for drastically less cost.

LOL Little_Thumper posts in every thread in this section trying to sell his sub. It is starting to get as predictable as the guy in my high school chem class who wore his Superman shirt every Thursday the entire school year.

normally more subs = more cone area... which in turn means louder... bigger subs = lower bass "deeper bass" "the bass that makes u jiggle"... so if u want more loudness then 2 subs or a bigger sub would be recommended...
