I've had a single 12" DC Level 4. Was pretty loud, no doubt. Still have the box (one I told you about).

Not looking just for loud however. The 10's are rockin' pretty good these days, though. Much more than the demo. Single 15" Xcon would be alright I suppose if I can find enough room.

Still not counting out 2 12 VVX's. Surface area advantage over anything else that could fit properly. Power works out decently, though I wouldn't have headroom to play with.

You could look for 12's that like a smaller box, maybe SA-12's? (1.75 cubic feet per)

All dependent on goals and power, but I'm thinking anywhere 1.75-2cubes per, tuned 30-33. Still brainstorming.
