Shut off internal amp??

I notice that some head units have the ability to turn the internal amp off. Somewhere I read that this helps alot with sound quality if you have a system. Whats the deal?

it's debatable. i guess the theory is if the internal amp is shut off, it doesn't generate heat, which in turn would improve sq

In the manual for my 880PRS, Pioneer states that it introduces less noise into the system to have the internal amp turned off when not needed.

I couldn't tell the difference, but I left it off.

With the internal amp on, the noise from the internal amp is then amplified, along with the signal, by your external amps, which produce an amount of noise also. With the internal amp off, there should be less noise in the signal, but whether or not you can actually hear it...

My manual says it enhances the pre-out voltage. I've never been able to tell a diff, but i leave it off cuz its pointless to be on anyways.

On my Excelon this is a noticable difference. It is a cleaner sound at high volumes.
