Every time i read about these subs it seems it is always praise for their great sound ... So I'm just wondering exactly what is the shortcomings of the JL Audio 12w6v2 subs ? I'll save my own opinion for last //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/naughty.gif.94359f346c0f1259df8038d60b41863e.gif

The only downside is price.

Plays relatively well across the frequency board. Able to be used in smaller enclosures, decent output. Accurate response. Not much about it that sucks. The speaker ring is flimsy, that's about it.

Comparable and cheaper would be the RE SE.

Well now ... I guess I won't wait until everyone else is finished , because you said exactly what i was going to say. I can't speak on the RE subs , cause I haven't heard them. I DID hear the w6 break up at high volumes before , but it was REALLY loud.

Well i have mine in a ported box but after months of banging it and hearing other installs its just sounds like any other sub to me but i dont have anything bad to say bout it though but im planning to put it in the recommended seal box and see if i like it better.

ps. a a friend of mine mtx 8500 owned me in spl and loudness //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif with only 400 watts but i sounded much better.

Interesting .... Two subs I have been wanting to hear are RE SEs and Sound Splinter R-Lps , but no-one near me has ever had any I could listen to. I played with a pair of the w6s in my car recently and liked them a LOT , but ultimately my Boston Pro series sounded faster and slightly better toned in the higher registers.

Time to buy another car I guess.... You know , where I can try some more subs out //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

output of the 13w6v2 i had was less than impressive imo.
Good point .... The effieciency of the w6 are definitely on the low side. I found they needed an EXTREMELY solid enclosure to get the most from them. I used the sealed wedges from JL , as well as some custom ported enclosures.

Like most JL subs, they sound good (what they are made to do) don't need a lot of power to perform at their maximum and don't need a big box. But if you want SPL they are not for you. They'll get loud enough to get you a noise ticket but not loud enough to win a SPL comp worthy of the name.
