Shiva ported box design

Howdy guys, i've been trying to design a box for a Shiva i'm going to buy soon, i am gonna have it ported, to about 30-32hz, and be approx 2 cubic feet. I want it to be 36" wide, and 13" tall, length can be adjusted (figuring about 12" abouts...) Anyone care to help me out here, i just don't know much about calculating length/volume of the port (planning on a slot port thats 11.5" tall since i'll be using 3/4" mdf)

Hehe, i am too......

I gots a question for you guys though, whats a good way to seal the driver to the box (nothing permanent), like a gasket or something? Or do i really even need anything?

I didn't use anything ... seal right on top of the wood was good enough.

I guess you could use a piece of foam/open cell weatherstripping around the outside ... seen that done before.

Well, got the box glued and screwed, shall see what it sounds like tomorrow after work...

As far as sealing, as suggested, weatherstripping works fine. I used the 1/8" thick, 1/4" wide double stick stuff that comes in a 50ft roll from Lowes. It works great, sealed up a leak I had from a dented basket. If you can find the black stuff somewhere else get that as it wont show up as badly as the white does.

Jmac, yes the port has a small opening, but look how long it is on the other pictures he posted.

how do you figure the correct port lengths on boxs like that with 3 walls i assume the first two is internal depth - the port width but how about the 3rd?

Its 1" wide, i wasn't sure how it would work, but seems to be just dandy

Got it all put together, sounds great, and still quite loud (louder than my pair of ported RE8s for sure...), i'm impresed by the SQ, and the low tuning might also contribute to that and the nice low extension i was missing with my 8s....

I've become a big fan of the nice deepness of ported boxes, maybe i just haven't heard decent sealed setups.....
