Shipment question

Hey guys, I'm thinking about putting up 2 subs for sale on the site. This will be my first selling on this site and actually shipping anything out for that matter. How does this work? Do I show up to UPS/FedEx and say I want to ship this out and they box it up and all or do I need to do all the boxing up? Is there a way to find out the exact cost of everything before driving all the way there. I'd like my buyer to know the exact amount he has to pay and such. If someone could explain this clearly that would be greatly appreciated.

FedEx / Kinkos (or whatever they call themselves now) and UPS Stores will box anything you want. You'd have to bring the stuff to them before they can size it up, weigh it and give you a cost. But what I do is box stuff myself, carefully packed and supported (cardboard rings and stuff). Gotta think like a gorilla is going to handle the package. Then go to FedEx or UPS web site and put in the dimensions and weight and you can get a good estimate of cost.

You mentions cardboard rings and things..where do I get that and how much is it?

You make them. Cut up an old box with a razor knife. Gotta be creative sometimes. Also, for anything except light weight items I always double-box it. Especially with a sub. You support the sub in a close fitting box with cardboard or styrofoam braces so it can't possibly move in any direction. Then put that box in a bigger one and stuff the space with big bubble wrap or foam peanuts (WalMart has the wrap).
