Shaq traded......

Problem is the salary cap. Marion is on the books for 17 million. Detroit had discussed a trade for Marion and it would've taken Hamilton and Prince to make it work, which just doesn't work for the Pistons.

Also Phoenix run and gun style hasn't won them anything. Shaq is no longer a defensive presence, nor is he a dominate offensive player, but I can see why they wanted a shaq type player. A better fit for Phoenix would've been Pau Gasol.

He would have been a very good fit! it would have also worked out better for memphis. instead they got Kwame "Brick Hands" Brown. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/laugh.gif.48439b2acf2cfca21620f01e7f77d1e4.gif

and some other scrubs...

Memphis wanted cap relief which is why they took Kwame. I'm not sure the contract status of Phoenix players, but I bet they could've made the trade without even giving up Marion.

I still can't believe this, Phoenix will be up and down the court 5 times before Shaq finally gets up there once. This will either force Phoenix to play a different style, which sucks or Shaq will sit and they just lost Marion who I think was a great player for them.

Miami on the other hand, should love this. I think Wade and Marion could work well together and they can play a more uptempo game this way. Also, the two have played with eachother before on US teams, right? So that could only help. This trade is a A+ for Miami IMO...

Phoenix must be giving up on the season, which makes no sense at all; But I have been wrong before, this could be what Shaq needs to spark some motivation into himself.

Phoenix can still run //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/fyi.gif.9f1f679348da7204ce960cfc74bca8e0.gif

Shaq is being brought in more for his defensive presence. All he has to do is rebound the ball and outlet to Nash and let them run the floor and beat the defense down the court. Also, Phoenix has struggled against teams with good interior presences. Now they have a legitimate low post player. I don't think it's a good move, but not as terrible as some think.

that was a very dumb trade. why in the hell would they dump Shawn Marion, who has been playing OUTSTANDING over the past couple years, for shaq, who well we all know is at the end of his great career.
Shaq just wont be able to keep up with that high paced offense.
That was the first thought that popped into my head when I saw the trade announced. The Suns run an incredibly high tempo offense based on fastbreaks and I see no way in hell the Shaq will be able to keep up. Terrible trade for the Suns.

I dunno fellaz, in Miami the offense had to revolve around Shaq and Wade. In phoenix it will be a different story, Shaq in my hopes will re-juvenate this team for a playoff competition. Some of you forget that Shaq is an excellent passer, sleep on him in the post and he will either dunk on you or get the ball to the open man. He no longer will have to take the contested shot in the post. I see nothing but good things for Phoenix.

On a second note, everyone in the West needs to be more concerned about playing against the Lakers in the post-season. Kobe, Bynum and Gasol. Need I say more.

I wish Shaq nothing but the best, and hope that he brings a Championship to the Suns, just as he did with Wade in Miami.

I like what Phoenix is trying to do, but don't think Shaq is the right player. He isn't a defensive stopper, and isn't as dominate offensively. Phoenix was undersized up front. Marion is a SF, and Amare is a PF, both of them were playing PF and C. You don't need 5 players to run the fast break, and I don't see Shaq logging the minutes he did in his prime.

The Suns don't need another runner. They need a big guy who can get some stops and score some buckets in a half court offense so they can finally have some success in the playoffs.

But I'm not totally sure that Shaq is the answer.

I agree. Gasol would've been a much better option.

I am a Suns fan and I heard this trade announced on NBA Fastbreak last night at like 1 in the morning on ESPN and I freaked out. I could not believe that when we are the number one team in the West and sure to make the playoffs again and almost without a doubt have first round home court advantage, we decided to trade the second most important player on the team and certainly the most versatile player. And what do we get for him? An aged, foul and injury prone, slow Shaq. Now I can't begin to say that I understand why this trade would have been done except that it has benefits for everyone.

Marion has wanted out of Phoenix for a while now. Why? I don't know. So he gets to leave.

Miami wanted to move Shaq because of the salary cap and would take just about anything to move him. Getting Marion and Banks was definitely a plus because Banks will give Jason Williams a run for his money for the starting point guard spot once he learns the system. And Marion is a double-double threat every game.

Phoenix loses and wins. They lose a large percentage of their scoring, athleticism, and rebounding with Marion leaving. Also, there is less depth at the point guard spot with Banks leaving because Barbosa has flourished as more of a shooting guard. However, if Shaq can get healthy and get in better shape, he will be able to play in Phoenix. No one expects him to run with the Suns, but he can get defensive rebounds, which is one of the Suns' Achilles heels. He can then outlet and make his way down the court for the halfcourt offense if we don't score in transition. He can still play a little defense, which will help when playing San Antonio, LA, and other teams with big men that Stoudemire can't match up with. My issue is that he is not going to average the same scoring or minutes that Marion did, which leaves a hole to be filled. That means Diaw and Barbosa will have to continue to step up.

But who knows how everything will turn out. It will be interesting to watch, though.
