Seriously, can a piston make it out the TOP of a motor?

I don't know... If you have like a 300 shot in an underbuilt motor it's probably possible.
Enough pressure all at once, can do all sorts of shit.

No, wrong. IF anything the motor would kick a rod through the block or pan. I have never seen a piston go through a head, and have seen hundreds of motors go POP.

What is very possible is if you have a nitrous leak ex... and it blows the butterflys and or carbs straight up off the intake.

I have personally seen this happen at the dragstrip and it was insane.....Im not sure if it was the piston but the hood exploded and huge fragments of metal went launching into the air

As i said before, it was a nitrous explosion or a blower burst panel.

Thats what I mean, like it was only a 350 mild build, maybe 400whp, but the chick was saying she built it herself and whatnot

Just didnt seem safe to me but I had never actually seen or heard of "first hand" experience, just the obligatory "put a piston thru the hood" comments

I am thinking a v configuration where top would be intake....

in a v config the top of the piston would be the head. the block itself would have to seriously FIAL to get a piston up thru an intake.

I had a cap break and piston go straight up through the cyl. wall and galleys. it exited through the aluminum intake and had no issues going through the hood:crap:

I'm not totally sure in todays modern engines that it could happen,but in the early to mid 80's back in the group b rally days it absolutely did happen. I wish i could find the video but there is a youtube vid of one coming thru the hood of an old saab.
