seperating motor and basket

what are you guys doing? Davidfre told me to tap it with a hammer or pry it off, but any other options?

Deppends on who made it...my old Blueprint driver had the basket and motor held in place by 4 screws and that was it.

it has the screws, but im guessin its gonna a bead of glue (rubber/ca) holding in place... ive ran across a couple subs like this.

Usually there are screws and you take those out, then pry the basket off of the motor. It'll take a little force since the magnetic force will probably be holding the basket in place.

DON'T put your hand under the motor though. I learned the hard way //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/frown.gif.a3531fa0534503350665a1e957861287.gif Yanked the basket off and had a 50lb motor smash 3 fingers. . . it hurt //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/crying.gif.ec0ebefe590df0251476573bc49e46d8.gif

I took a block of wood and placed it on the pole piece and hit the basket. Popped right off.

This was on a 2002-2003 resonant engineering se10

When I dismantled my eclipse alum. It had six screws and was also glued with the motor. Use a flathead like a chisel, put the tip directly in the joint and hit it with a hammer.//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/naughty.gif.94359f346c0f1259df8038d60b41863e.gif

guess i should of mentioned i took the screws out already, and its still glued on................already broke a decent size flat head tip lol.
Thats what I did. Then I found a block of would that fit. I laid the basket and motor over the block like a hat and hit the basket. It came right off.

I didn't need the basket anymore though...

I think with high power handling subs, cast baskets are used to avoid "rippling" the basket at resonance frequencies, which can cause misalignment...
