Sealed louder than ported in truck cabin?

Yesterday my friend came over with his Chevy Colorado and his Type X 12 in sub. He was wanting to find a sealed sub box because he said the Type X doesnt get loud in his ported box, which was a pathetic less than a cube box with a small *** port. So i replaced the box for the 1.5 cubed box of the original specs for the 12w6v2. Needless to say it sounded a lot louder and and better in his truck cabin (in the rear) with the Hifonics pushing roughly 900 watts at it.

Then him and his friend told me that sealed is louder in the cabin of a truck but we dont have a sealed box to try that. I personally dont believe that and i have had great success with ported. But he calls a few shops in Houston including the flea market //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/crap.gif.7f4dd41e3e9b23fbd170a1ee6f65cecc.gif and they all say sealed sounds louder and hits harder in a truck cabin and that ported is only louder in a trunk. When it comes to recommended sealed or ported enclosures of the Type X 12, or whatever your basis is on which is better sealed or ported in a truck cabin, which one is louder? If it matters which i believe it doesnt it is a Chevy Colorado 4 door.

Yes ive read the ported vs sealed thread and yes i know that a lot of people have ported loud as hell boxes in their truck cabins. I just need to hear answers to prove him or me wrong. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/yumyum.gif.0556df42231b304b9c995aefd13928a8.gif

Thanks

A properly built ported > Properly built sealed box
A properly built sealed box > a poorly built ported box

My guess is his ported box was probably teh ****!
x2... plus, what appears louder isn't always louder. For example, a sealed box can feel louder but not actually be louder than a ported box...

His ported box does **** its about .7 cubes of volume inside. I told him ported boxes sound loud in a truck cabin, i even showed him NisAznMonk's badass setup and him and his friend still wouldnt believe me. But imma just print this out and hand it to him like tonight lol.

I have a pair of cvr 12's in a sealed enclosure in my 07 ex-cab silverado and it's load (135db on a termlab mic) but I think I could do better with a ported enclosure. And we tried it with the doors open or closed 2db's less with doors open, although it sounds much louder with the doors open.

I had an older RF PRO 12 in a ported enclosure behind the set in my 98 F150 that I ran for a year in SQ--USAC in 1998. With 1x12 800w in ported enclosure it consistently SPL 135.6 still have the years worth of score sheets to prove it. Highest score sheet I have is a 137 SPL. The ported enclosure will be louder or seem to be louder. The box must be built and ported correctly. What is his port tuned to, that will play into the equation also. I cannot remeber what mine was tuned at want to say 60 or 80hz.

Comparison:

2000 Jetta same sub in trunk of car sealed-135 all day-highest 137

1998 F150 ported 135.6 all day-highest 137

Same amp on both old school autotek.

sounds like a shitty made ported box... probably should have made a box that was directly made for that type x and ported....

In my truck I had a sealed box that was right on the #s for my IDQ10. Buit a ported box thats really close to ideal. No doubt, ported is louder in my truck. Same amp, same sub, all that I changed was the box and the sealed box was a little bit closer to IDs specs.

Ported is louder, IMO
