Scotch

Chivas Regal 12 year has been my personal favorite lately, though i had some family pick up some stuff that i have never tried.

The chivas is a blended, but it suits my present tastes.

I'm partial to Makers Mark
WTF???

Whatever.... we all know makers is not whisky. The true definition of whisky is whisky those of us in the US know as Scotch. Bourbon is NOT technically whisky by definition.

If you want to learn and wet your palette,,, try of course the basic blended such as dewards, johnny, famous... etc... but those are larger blended and less aged variants. Get a taste and then begin exploring the many different varieties of single malts such as highland, lowland, islay, speyside... And learn the differences and learn how to truly taste and appreciate the differences and learn that drinking Whisky for real is definitely not an amateur sport. By now you probably undestand that it is not a poor mans sport either.

Good luck.

Hey man im not trying to start a fight with you but your kinda wrong, Makers is bourbon but whiskey also, and it is defineately one of the best IMO

All bourbons are whiskey, but not all whiskeys are bourbon

Some of my favorites are Glenfiddich(probly not spelled right), Glenlivit,, Mccalum, Jack if I don't feel like spending as much, and always did like Seagrams. A good scotch just needs a little ICE or water to set it off. A great scotch goes down perfectly with nothing. 99% of the time I was drinking it neat, no water, no ICE. With some of the scotches that have a 'bite' to them I'll add in water but not that often. I don't like to water down my liquor. I prefer to buy stuff that doesn't need anything added.

i personally favor JW black, and Belvieenie (SP?)

never could afford blue //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/crap.gif.7f4dd41e3e9b23fbd170a1ee6f65cecc.gif

and on the rocks is the way to go

save up some money and go with the blue label, you wont be dissapointed.
shut the fuck up.

first off, while you may think sipping expensive scotch may make you look important, any scotch drinker worth their salt is going to know you're full of shit and couldn't tell the difference between blended and single malt. They're going to think of this, ask you some questions, and then automatically label you as being full of shit and a phony... But they're not going to tell you.

Try some single malts like glenlivet, or maybe even macallan. Try some blended scotch like JW black or red (JW isn't the only blended by the way, you'd think it was though). Find out what you like and dont worry about buying something expensive and trying to look cool. Once you've gotten a taste for scotch and more importantly what you like in a scotch start venturing out. Then you can spend some money.

You dont need to be buying blue or oban to be drinking scotch, in fact, you shouldn't because not only will you be throwing away money you'll be setting yourself up to be more of a pretentious prick than you already are and as i stated above, you'll look like a fool to anyone who matters.

But i don't expect a tool bag like you to take my amazing advice anyway.

Rocks versus Neat is a debate in itself. Just drink what you like and dont ever feel the need to defend it. If you get stuck in a debate about spirits you might as well segway into abortion and capital punishment.
