Scam?

Ok my father just got a letter in the mail from a guy telling us he would like to buy our house.

We do not have a for sale sign or have had any open houses, ever.

the letter was hand written in red ink on a halfed piece of lined paper. In the letter the street name was written as Lincoln. Our street name and the name written on the envelope is Linden.

So is this a known scam? he gave a phone number should i call?
