How to test for ground?

I just installed a new in dash but I want to be sure that it is properly grounded. I have it attached to a bare piece of metal inside the dash but I want to make sure its got solid ground. The reason I want to be sure is that I installed a pioneed avh-p3100dvd and I used a relay bypass method for the ebrake lockout, but it so far is not sucessful. Im wondering if my relay is not getting proper ground.

Thanks for the warm and fuzzy responses. Sorry for asking the dumb question. Another question in respect to ground. It wasnt discussed in the link above. The vehicle specific wiring harness that I bought for my car has a ground wire. Can I just use that as my ground location. It seems logical because that ground wire is conected to a ground on the factory harness that I would assume is attached to an appropriate ground location right?

i connect the ground in harness and run a ground to good metal! i also run a ground wire along with my remote to the back and ground it where i ground my amps.

Its best to make your own ground. Sometimes the factory grounds are not that great.

I wouldnt ground my HU to the same ground as my amps either.

my DVD head unit needed a 12v signal for the brake lockout..

Are you sure that it requires a ground and not a 12v signal?
