SA-8s - v.1 or v.2?

In simple concept - the v.2, right? Well, I've got an idea. As to 8s being the forum hard-on at the moment, I've been hearing a lot about them, and I wouldn't mind trying them. All of this is simply speculation, I'm just asking for theoretical purposes. However, I have been offered 4 SA-8v.1s for $360, or about $90/woofer to my door. Online, I'm seeing most SA-8v.2s for about $185/woofer to my door - about double the price. Now, I've been seeing all of the improvements from the v.1s to the v.2s. However, if I were to do a build for 8s, I'd like to keep the sub budget about in this range - either 4 v.1s or 2 v.2s. Even though all of these improvements have been made to the v.2, it's pretty safe to say that the 4 v.1s would have the potential out-perform 2 v.2s, correct? I realize the v.1s have not only more cone area but also greater motor force, but the v.2 did have a stronger motor and improved excursion.

(For argument's sake, we'll say the v.1s would be on 450/sub, where the v.2s would be on 800/sub.)

id swing the opposite. ive been tempting to do 8s for a while and id honestly choose 4 v1s over 2 v2s, especially on that power amount.

That's what my initial guess was. However, with the extra power AND motor force on the v.2s, I really wasn't sure. I should've put up a poll, come to think of it.

i cant be for sure. but you could also over build the size of the box on the v1s, and theyll get louder faster, its hard to depict, thats just my .02

Are you referring to daily, or simply putting up numbers?

i can vouch for the v2 i jus installed 4 of them on a saz3500 in my buddies ranger..gettin abiut 800 each sub ...pretty **** nasty

I haven't heard of anything major. Maybe Jacob could shine some light, he'd probably have the best input.

Yeah, I bet 4 v.2s would get really nasty. I just don't have the money for four of them.

I am sure Jacob will correct me here but from my experience 99% of the blown sa8s I have seen were due to burnt tinsil leads. Since the leads were updated from flat to round the problem seems to have been corrected.

Yes. v1s and v1.5s are now being reconed with round leads.
