I was thinking of purchasing the Infinity 7541a 4-Ch amp.

I listed the amp above, I listen to mostly rap with some rock thrown in, Mazda3s, and I am looking to get both values (SPL and SQ).

id takes less power and sounds pretty good where the l7 needs more power

The L7 would need more power so Id need to get a new amp? So should I just stick with my original combo of the Infinity amp and the ID sub?

subs get under powered all the time. isnt any big deal 12 v a 10 where the ten likes more juice? still havent gotten an idea yet on box size although i am sure 2 cft would be acceptable. on the smaller wattage amp though id think the id would have a pretty good advantage

I know subs get underpowered, I was just supporting polecats statment. Just because a sub can handle more power, it doesn't mean it "needs" that to properly work.

just now saw the specs on that amp, and I'm not to impressed by it. Even if it's bridged your only gonna get MAX 278W. That's pretty low, if I were you I'd save up a little more and buy a mono amp.

may I ask why you are choosing a 4 channel amp for a mono situation?

I believe either will work with 278W, just don't expect a lot out of it. It'll sound good I'm sure, but because you are underpowering it do not turn the gain up higher to get more output from the sub. Sending clipping signal from amp = bad. If you don't really wanna worry about having to be careful with the gains(not saying you shouldn't do the gain setting tut...because you should), having head room for later, and probably spend a little more money for quality = you'll be happier in the long run.
