s10 Amp installation help

I have a 600 watt mono block amp powering 2 EL subs, then today I wired a 300 watt lightning audio amp to power my highs. After all hooked up i turned it all on and the the speakers were really low and the subs were lower than normal also. I turned the gain on the amp up and the bass drowns out on the subs. Is it because my alternator is not suppling enough power or I have something wired wrong? please help!!
