i just ordered the alpine pxa-H701 and i already have the rux-C701

i am just trying to figure out where i want to put the C701.

in my car there are 2 single din openings.

one where the radio normally goes, and one at the bottom for a cubby hole.

with the cubby hole removed i can put either my pioneer hu or the C701 down there.

i went ahead and put the C701 down in the bottom because i didnt feel like messing with the hu wiring right now.

but i am not against changing it around.

here are some pics so you can see what i have to work with.

the main reason i am considering this is because the C701 will become the main volume know and i dont want to have it behind the shifter.

but then again with the pioneer behind the shifter changing out cd's and stuff will be complicated a bit.

one plus i can think of about having the pioneer in the bottom is the sun might not be such a problem when trying to read the screen.

if the sun is shining on this thing i cant read the screen and that sucks.

I would leave it like you have it.

The only time you need to use the C701 as the volume control is if you are running digital into the H701 and aren't using an Ai-net headunit that controls the H701.

For your purposes, running analog, you can simply set the C701 volume control to it's maximum level, and then continue to use the volume on the Pioneer as the main volume control. Hell, once you get the H701 set you could even unplug the C701 and remove it from the install completely........

Leaving the Pioneer on top would serve better ergonomically aswell for things like changing CD, operating FM tuner, etc. And, again, you can continue to use it as the main volume control.

so the C701 doesnt have to be plugged in while you are using the H701?

just when you want to adjust something.

hmm.

on another note would the 9860 run the H701?

it says it has optical out to control "optional sound processor"

so i would assume they mean this.

if so then that is the one i am going to use.

crutchfield has them on sale for 299 and if my tax return comes back before the sale ends i will pick one up.

Yes it does.

That's what I'm using with my H701 //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

hmm, i have heard that some of the functions (auto something or other, eq i think)

required you to have the C701 controller.

the person that said this was using it with the w200 indash screen.

do you know anything about this?

The mic comes with the C701, and might only be able to "function" with the C701. I don't remember off hand, never used it when I had my C701.

In all honesty, I don't know of anybody who has the H701 and actually used the mic/auto-settings. 10/10 times better results are acheived with setting it personally.

W200?
