Running two internet routers

Okay I moved it to my xbox and could not get internet at all. Just wouldn't work. My dumbazz didn't realize I had to have a phone line connected to it as well. Ill try that in a few mins.

yeah i have ranch style house idk about basements or 2nd floor but i have acre of land and my cheap router will play movie on tablet all the way to my mailbox (150feet) and wifi is in back of my brick house.. i sold directv on phone yrs ago and heard night mare stories about comcast.. our charter (spectrum) is pretty good.. they come out in 1 day if i call, just did a test i get 63mbps i pay for 50 but just $160 month but none of them are cheap now i guess..

2 routers is not good on the same network. Both will hand out DHCP addresses and you will end up with multiple devices on the network with the same IP addresses ultimately resulting in an IP address conflict and no network access.
not at all true as its a million to one chance of getting the same ip address on more than one device at the same time assigned randomly via dhcp. by the your logic, youre as likely to win the lottery because you bought a ticket.

Okay I got it working and plugged directly to my Xbox. Working great. My Mac has full wifi signal all the way across the house too. So i'm good now.

Pulled 120 download and 12 upload at my Xbox and 78 download and 12 upload with Wifi on my Mac across the house.

Thanks everyone //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/boobiez.gif.bcca53c4e1c9539300cad4d7d1b9dd4d.gif

did you move it like i suggested?

I have two routers and a switch but only one router is for wifi and thats in the middle of the house. The other is in the basement with the switch.

If you need multiple ethernet outputs then a switch is the way to go. If you only need one or two, your router should have two-three extra inputs.

If you're just trying to hook up an xbox, I'd just get a 100ft ethernet from amazon and run it to where you need it.

There are routers that actually come with a pair of "signal boosters" that can work well if setup correctly. You'd have one main router in one room and then the other two in the upstairs or downstairs or whatever.

Only thing is with those ones is that the good ones are expensive.

Tbh most routers that support 802.11 ac for wlan should be able to handle a simple wireless gaming setup. Its stupid fast for wireless 99% of the time.

A few options

1) Wi-Fi extender (cheapest)

2) 2nd router with a 50-100ft ethernet cable. 2nd router plugs into the ethernet port of either 1) the modem if it has multiple outputs and they're all active or 2) the router (acting as a switch now)

3) New router with better range

4) Long ethernet cables

I'm running option 2 because a certain someone's router ***** for me, but not everyone else, so instead of just using my router his has been plugged into an output of my router

Oh, I didn't read **** in this thread. So yeah

Comcast just left. Got a new modem and "box" outside was damaged so he replaced it. So far so good //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/hide.gif.2d479cfd917eedfe201353b91522ceab.gif

try to log into the modem control panel and look at the dBfs in and outbound. They should be around -35 to -50dbfs

sometimes there's problems with the coaxial cables having water in them, corroding, etc etc etc they can put a scope on it to test it

Almost every home grade device hands out the same 50 DHCP addresses in the 192.168.1.x range. Its extremely likely you end up with the same IP address.
